About this programme:

The National Certificate (Vocational) offers learners a vocational alternative to an academic Grade 10-12 by offering specialised training on NQF levels 2-4.

If you would like to qualify with a specialised NQF level 4 certificate that will enable you to find relevant employment once qualified, the National Certificate (Vocational) is for you.

This course provides you with a thorough grounding in key aspects relating to administration work across a broad spectrum. Once you have completed this course you will be able to run a small office as a general administrator or work as general secretary or personal assistant.

How is the programme structured?
The National Certificate (Vocational) is a three year qualification made up of three certificates obtained in NQF Levels 2, 3 and 4.

All National Certificate (Vocational) programmes consist of a fundamentals learning component and a vocational component and comprise 130 credits on each level.

  • Entrepreneurship (Level 2)
  • Project Management (Level 3,4)

Office Practice (Level 2,3,4)
This subject covers the aspects of frontline management as well as customer queries via mail or phone. Students are equipped to operate and care for office equipment and do filing.

Business Practice (Level 2,3,4)
Students are equipped to manage their time, judge their abilities, behave in a professional manner and to identify their functions in an organisation as a whole and in their departments. Health, safety and security issues add to the holistic understanding of their future work.

Office Data Processing (Level 2,3,4)
Data processing equips students with details required to accurately set up letters and other office documents. Typing skills also forms a key aspect of this subject.

Entrepreneurship (Level 2)
Students will be taught to start their own business as well as develop their own business plan. They also gain experience in developing questionnaires and conducting research.

Project Management (Level 3,4) 
This subject provides the student with the discipline of defining and achieving targets while optimising the use of resources (time, money, people, materials, energy, space, etc.)

What are the entrance requirements?
The minimum entrance requirement for the National Certificate (Vocational) at Level 2 on the NQF is a Grade 9 Certificate or Level 1 equivalent.
